Canada’s First Cement-Linked Carbon Capture Facility Launches in Ontario

July 29, 2025 by Newsdesk

Calgary-based Carbon Upcycling and Ash Grove have begun construction on Canada’s first commercial carbon capture and utilization (CCU) facility at a cement plant. Located in Mississauga, the Carbon 1 facility will use patented technology to capture kiln emissions and convert them into low-carbon supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs).

Once operational in 2026, it will produce 30,000 tonnes of SCMs annually. Backed by CRH Ventures and $10 million in federal funding, the project supports clean manufacturing goals and creates skilled local jobs. CEO Apoorv Sinha calls it a new model for community-aligned climate solutions.
