Study Reveals Level 1 Chargers Meet Needs of Many EV Drivers

July 22, 2024 by Newsdesk

A University of Calgary study finds that 29% of electric vehicle (EV) drivers can meet their daily charging needs using standard 120-volt Level 1 chargers. The study, analyzing data from 129 EVs over 13 months, also shows that with occasional DC fast charging, another 53% of drivers can rely on Level 1 chargers.

Lead author Sara Hastings-Simon highlights that not all EV owners need Level 2 charging, challenging a common assumption. The study suggests increasing public access to Level 1 charging and DC fast chargers to reduce the necessity for costly residential Level 2 installations.
