Ottawa Startup Wins at Web Summit Qatar

Plantaform won the PITCH startup competition at Web Summit Qatar 2026 after the Doha event drew 30,274 attendees, 1,637 startups, and 931 investors from 127 countries. The Ottawa agtech builds smart indoor gardens using fogponics, delivering nutrients as ultrasonic mist to grow herbs and greens year-round with less water and faster yields.

Chief executive Alberto Aguilar said the win accelerated GCC household adoption talks and desert greenhouse deployments. Vancouver robotics firm GlüxKind and Dubai fashion marketplace &Again were runners-up, while Canadian climatetech CURA reached the semifinals, also representing Canada proudly.

AI-Powered Stroller Earns Global Recognition for Glüxkind

Vancouver-based Glüxkind, a finalist for the BC Tech Association’s 2025 Technology Impact Awards in the Startup of the Year category, is earning global recognition with Rosa, the world’s first AI-powered stroller. Designed to assist parents, Rosa features automatic braking, obstacle detection, self-rocking, and white noise integration.

Co-founder Anne Hunger says the product was inspired by Vancouver’s hilly neighbourhoods and parental challenges such as fatigue and multitasking. The company, supported by Canadian innovation programs, has won CES Innovation Awards and secured patents while expanding into five countries. Its nomination highlights Glüxkind’s potential to transform parenting through technology.

Smart Stroller Startup Rolls Away with $125K Prize

Vancouver-based startup GlüxKind secured the top prize at the AWS x NVIDIA AI Pitch Competition, earning $125,000 for its AI-powered smart stroller. The company triumphed over five other emerging tech ventures in a high-profile showcase judged by leaders from AWS, NVIDIA, and prominent venture firms.

GlüxKind, a BC Tech Association member, was founded in 2020 by Kevin Huang and Anne Hunger after becoming parents. Their award-winning stroller uses robotics to support safer parenting. Previously recognized at CES 2023, GlüxKind’s victory marks a milestone in Canada’s AI innovation journey.
