The Minister of Canadian Heritage announced $300,00 in funding to help Canadians “identify misinformation online” through a project from the Université de Montréal. The university aims to develop a website and browser extension using AI tools to detect misinformation in various formats and languages. The project hopes to reduce the spread of false information and enhance “public knowledge, media integrity, and democratic resilience.”
“Thriving democracies require informed citizenry, and Canadians deserve the right to trust the information they need to inform their choices,” stated Pascale St‑Ong. “That’s why projects like this one play such a vital role in helping build and maintain that trust in Canadians.”
