Gaming Startup Lands Round of Capital to Empower NPCs with AI

July 18, 2024 by Newsdesk

Edmonton-based Artificial Agency, founded by former DeepMind researchers, has emerged from stealth mode with US$16 million in seed funding. The company is developing an AI-powered “behaviour engine” designed to enhance in-game interactions, making storytelling and gameplay more interactive and personalized. This tech aims to replace the tedious scripting process, allowing NPCs to react dynamically to player actions.

The funding round was co-led by Radical Ventures and Toyota Ventures, with additional support from Tirta Ventures and Kaya VC. Artificial Agency’s 20-person team is collaborating with major game developers, aiming to launch its product in 2025. By empowering both large studios and indie developers, the startup hopes to create games that truly play to win.
