The British Columbia government has partnered with SpaceX’s Starlink to improve connectivity for remote highway webcams and roadside weather stations.
Previous satellite providers faced technical issues, leaving essential webcams offline. Vancouver Island sites like Crest Lake and Kennedy Lake have already transitioned to Starlink, showing promising results.
The Ministry of Transportation plans a one-year assessment to determine long-term viability. The Avalanche and Weather Programs team also utilizes Starlink for live video feeds from weather stations.
This move enhances connectivity in remote areas, benefiting transportation safety and government functions.
