Canada has committed $120 million to support semiconductor startups through a new program led by CMC Microsystems. Innovation Minister François-Philippe Champagne announced the five-year funding from the Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) in Montreal. The $223-million Fabric program will provide participants with tools, staff, and cost-effective prototype production to bring advanced technologies to market.
Projects can receive up to $10 million each to develop technologies such as semiconductors and micro-electromechanical sensors. CMC CEO Gordon Harling emphasized that startups will emerge with prototypes to attract private investors or secure customer orders, aligning with Canada’s broader chip strategy.
