Last year, the government of Canada laid down plans to phase out gas-powered motor vehicles within the next decade. They’re building charging stations like crazy in anticipation. This week, however, it has been revealed the nation is grappling with “major gaps” in the supply chain as the transition to electrically powered cars encounters bumps on the road.
Canada has less than half of the mineral production it needs, leaked internal documents show, while lower-than-expected demand for EVs has multiple companies hesitating on plans to expand in the Canadian market. Without more investment, the sector may continue to struggle for viability.
