Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced a $2.4 billion investment in artificial intelligence (AI) in Canada’s upcoming budget. This substantial funding includes $2 billion for the AI Compute Access Fund to enhance computing capabilities and infrastructure.
Trudeau’s announcement in Montreal marks a strategic push to expand the AI sector in Canada, with consultations soon to begin with industry leaders. An additional $200 million will foster AI adoption in sectors like agriculture and healthcare. The government will also establish a $50-million AI safety institute and allocate funds to the office of the AI and Data Commissioner, in line with the proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act.
