Supply chain disruptions, rising protectionism, and unfair trade practices threaten to undermine Canada’s access to international trade markets, compromise local supply chains, harm national security, and tarnish economic prosperity, according to a statement from the federal government, which is “continuously looking to promote resiliency” while ensuring the economy remains “competitive and secure.”
Canada has therefore announced the launch of public consultations on “potential new measures to advance and defend Canada’s economic security interests.” The consultations, held through September, will help assess whether Canada as a trading nation has “the best tools to promote economic prosperity and resilience.”
