The Semiconductor Industry Leadership and Innovation Canada Action Network (SILICAN) has unveiled its inaugural policy report, offering a roadmap for strengthening Canada’s semiconductor sector.
Comprising chip industry and postsecondary associations, SILICAN collaborates with federal and provincial governments to advance the industry’s interests.
In response to the United States’ efforts to bolster its chip industry, SILICAN’s report suggests Canada should focus on compound semiconductors, photonics, and packaging.
The report calls for expanding the National Research Council’s Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre, targeted investments via the Strategic Innovation Fund, and support for chip talent development.
