Afynia Laboratories, led by former McMaster University scientists Lauren Foster and Jocelyn Wessels, has raised $2 million to bring its microRNA-based endometriosis test, EndomiR, to market. The funding round was backed by Capital Angel Network, SOSV, Gaingels, Aventura, and McMaster University’s Seed Fund.
Afynia aims to improve endometriosis diagnosis, which currently takes an average of seven years. EndomiR uses a single blood sample to detect endometriosis with over 90% accuracy for high and low-risk patients, providing a faster, less invasive alternative to current diagnostic methods.
