Blackline Safety to Go Private in $850M Deal

Calgary-based Blackline Safety will go private in a deal valued at up to $850 million, following an agreement with an affiliate of Francisco Partners. Shareholders will receive $9.00 per share in cash plus a contingent value right tied to future performance. The transaction represents a premium of up to 34 percent.

Blackline provides connected safety solutions combining hardware, software, and data for industrial environments. The company reported annual recurring revenue of $90.5 million. The deal is expected to close in 2026, pending approvals, after which Blackline will be delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Calgary Tech Protects Olympic Venues

A Calgary safety technology company is helping secure the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Blackline Safety has deployed connected gas and radiation detection systems with the Belluno Provincial Fire Brigade in the Milan-Cortina region. The specialized hazardous-materials unit is using wearable detectors and area monitors to identify nuclear, biological, chemical, and radiological threats during venue sweeps and live events.

The equipment delivers real-time alerts, enabling rapid response and coordinated evacuation if hazards are detected. CEO Cody Slater said the Olympics represent one of the world’s most challenging safety environments. The deployment shows industrial safety technology expanding into large public-event security.

Blackline Adds Amazon Bedrock Creator as Director

Calgary-based Blackline Safety has named Vasi Philomin, Siemens Executive Vice President of Data and AI, to its Board of Directors. Philomin, who created Amazon Bedrock and pioneered connected lighting at Philips, adds expertise in scaling hardware-enabled SaaS platforms.

Blackline, a leader in IoT-enabled safety solutions, recently expanded its Calgary quality assurance program and secured its first Abu Dhabi National Oil Company order. CEO Cody Slater praised Philomin’s alignment with Blackline’s predictive safety and real-time intelligence goals. Fast Company recognized the firm as one of 2025’s most innovative companies for its EXO 8 monitor.
