PASQAL’s $90M Quantum Tech Initiative Positions Sherbrooke as Quantum Hub

Quantum computing leader PASQAL has initiated a groundbreaking $90 million quantum technology venture in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Supported by a $15 million loan from the Government of Quebec, the five year project aims for manufacturing, research, and commercialization within DistriQ, a quantum innovation zone.

With Espace Quantique 1 set to open in 2024, the facility will manufacture neutral-atom quantum computers and foster innovation in a 5,000 square meters collaborative space.

PASQAL’s CEO, Georges-Olivier Reymond, emphasizes the initiative’s role in attracting global talent and companies, positioning Sherbrooke as a prominent quantum hub in North America.

PASQAL To Open Quantum Computer Factory in Canada

PASQAL, the global leader in quantum computing with neutral atoms, has announced plans to build a state-of-the-art quantum processing factory in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

The factory, located at DistriQ – Quantum Innovation Zone, will focus on producing cutting-edge hardware for the North American market, accelerating the adoption of neutral atoms quantum computing in the region.

By leveraging their quantum technology, which employs highly focused lasers known as “optical tweezers” to manipulate and trap individual neutral atoms, PASQAL aims to create 1D and 2D arrays of qubits. Their next-generation devices are expected to deliver a quantum computing power of 1,000 qubits by 2024.

Customers such as BMW, BASF, and Johnson & Johnson have already benefited from PASQAL’s technology.
