Calgary’s PrePad Wins Hart Energy Innovation Award

Calgary-based PrePad has won Hart Energy’s 2025 Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation in the Digital Oilfield category. The honor recognizes PrePad’s Completions Module, the first completions process simulator enabling operators to compare well decisions in seconds. Judges praised its integration of cost, time, and production trade-offs in one platform.

Founded in 2021 by former Shell engineers, PrePad has quickly become a leader in drilling optimization, securing clients such as Chevron, Shell Canada, and Devon Energy. The firm recently raised C$3.9 million and joined Chevron Technology Ventures’ Catalyst Program. PrePad says the award validates its impact on energy efficiency.

Calgary’s PrePad Raises $3.9M to Expand Drilling Tech

Calgary-based PrePad has raised $3.9 million in seed funding to advance its cloud-based software for drilling and completions. The funding, led by Devon Energy with support from Chevron Technology Ventures, BDC, and Alberta Innovates, will support U.S. expansion and product development. PrePad’s platform helps energy firms optimize well economics by simulating cost, time, and production trade-offs.

CEO Sean Hervo called the round a “major milestone,” positioning PrePad as a leader in drilling software innovation. Clients already include Chevron, Shell, and Birchcliff. With additional subscriptions launching in 2025, the company aims to dominate a newly defined software category.

PrePad Chosen for Chevron’s Catalyst Program, Innovates Energy Cost Estimation

Calgary-based SaaS startup PrePad has been selected for Chevron Technology Ventures’ (CTV) prestigious Catalyst Program, joining global energy innovators. Launched in 2017, the Catalyst Program fosters early-stage companies that drive innovation in the energy sector. PrePad’s software, which optimizes cost and time estimates for oil and gas drilling, provides transparency and improves decision-making.

PrePad joins Chevron’s experts to refine its platform, already used by companies like Devon Energy. Co-founders Sean Hervo and Brandon Eidson see this as a major step forward for PrePad, which was also named Disruptive Digital Innovator at the 2024 Global Energy Show.
