A new report from the Dais at Toronto Metropolitan University highlights disparities in Canada’s tech workforce. The study, part of the “Canada’s Got Tech Talent” series, reveals a widening gender pay gap, with men earning $20,000 more than women, up from $7,200 in 2016.
Visible minorities are more likely to work in tech but earn less, averaging $78,800 compared to $93,000 for non-visible minorities. Non-permanent-residents earn only $52,000 annually, while Indigenous tech workers make $14,000 less than their peers and are 70% less likely to work in tech. Despite high earnings, Canadian tech workers earn less than their U.S. counterparts.
