Canadian developer Deep Sky has chosen Innisfail, Alberta for the world’s first carbon removal innovation and commercialization centre, Deep Sky Labs. Located an hour north of Calgary, the site aims to accelerate scalable carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies to produce high integrity carbon credits.
The facility, operational this winter, will capture 3,000 tons of CO2 annually using up to 10 different technologies. Partnered with engineering firm BBA, the project will employ 80 construction workers and 15 annual operations staff, infusing $110M into the local economy over 10 years. This initiative marks Canada’s first commercial direct air capture project.
