Rogers and Lynk Global have marked a historic milestone by completing Canada’s inaugural satellite-to-mobile phone call using Samsung S22 smartphones.
The groundbreaking call, conducted in Heart’s Content, echoes the site’s legacy as the birthplace of the world’s first transatlantic telegraph cable. The test encompassed SMS, data, and emergency alerting services, enhancing connectivity in remote areas.
Rogers plans to launch satellite-to-mobile technology in 2024, initially focusing on SMS, mass notifications, and AI applications, with voice and data services to follow swiftly. This initiative aims to extend wireless services to Canada’s most remote regions and rural highways.
