AI Engine Powers Faster Manulife Decisions

Manulife is introducing a redesigned electronic life insurance application alongside an enhanced version of its AI underwriting engine, MAUDE, enabling automatic approvals in as little as two minutes for eligible applicants. The update uses adaptive questioning to reduce medical inquiries by up to 40 percent while improving consistency through standardized inputs.

Chief Underwriter Karen Cutler said 58 percent of eligible cases were auto-approved by December, up 56 percent from pre-launch. Applications requiring review are escalated to human underwriters. MAUDE evolved from Manulife’s 2018 AIDA system and operates under responsible AI principles, supporting faster, accurate decisions for advisors and clients.

Veritree, Manulife Partner on Smart Forests

Vancouver-based veritree has announced a major partnership with Manulife, marking the first corporate deployment of its Smart Forest technology. The collaboration brings Manulife’s reforestation efforts onto veritree’s data-driven platform and introduces the technology to Asia through projects in Japan and the Philippines.

Manulife Impact Forests aim to restore ecosystems, support communities, and enhance climate resilience. Veritree’s system combines satellite imagery, ground data, and bio-acoustic monitoring to track measurable outcomes, including carbon sequestration and biodiversity gains. Manulife called the initiative a model for integrating sustainability, accountability, and innovation. Veritree has helped plant over 180 million trees globally.
